America's favourite cocktail, the Margarita.

Though no one can really pinpoint the person who actually invented the margarita, there are a lot of different stories out there.

"Margarita" mean "daisy" in Spanish, which is very fitting because the Margarita is a rift off of the (Brandy) Daisy cocktail but using tequila instead of brandy. Daisies are a family of cocktails that consist of a base spirit, liqueur, and citrus. There are also different ways it can be made and glasses that can be used to serve it in. You can have them straight up, on ice, crushed ice, or blended then served in a rocks glass, coupe glass, or a margarita glass.

A classic margarita is usually lime flavoured, but throughout the years many people have made different flavours ranging from strawberry to lychee to apple cinnamon, and even beer flavoured margaritas.

But today we are focusing on a Watermelon Mint Margarita!

What you need:

  • 2.00oz tequila (Im using a reposado tequila)

  • 0.75oz fresh lime juice

  • 0.7 5oz agave nectar

  • 1.00oz watermelon juice

  • Mint

  • Shaker

  • Hawthorne strainer

  • Fine mesh strainer

  • Maldon salt

  • Ice

  • Rocks glass

Step One:

Prepare your glass by getting the rim of your glass wet with lime juice, then dip the wet part of the glass into the maldon salt and set aside.

Step Two:

Add all ingredients into your shaker.

Step Three:

Add ice to your shaker and shake for 15 seconds.

Step Four:

Grab the fine mesh strainer and the Hawthorne strainer and double strain the cocktail over ice into your glass.

The strainer will catch any mint leaves from the shaker.

Step Five:

Grab a nice looking sprig of mint for garnish and lightly slap it so you can express the oils out of the leaves and it smells more.

Now serve your drink and enjoy!
